About Us
A Jasper Landmark
The Atha-B, as it has been affectionately known by locals and travellers for generations, stands on the site of one of Jasper’s earliest hotels.
Circa 1913–1915, as the dusty railway town of Fitzhugh became Jasper, Douglas Woolley’s store housed a rooming house upstairs. Until around 1921 the Imperial Bank of Canada also operated from the building.
In 1921 the property expanded and officially became the Athabasca Hotel. In 1928 the Calgary Brewing and Malting Company replaced the original wooden structure with a striking three-storey brick building designed by George Fordyce of Calgary.
With its commanding presence at Patricia and Miette, the new Athabasca Hotel became the vibrant heart of the community. Before the road from Edmonton was completed, guests arrived by train and were met by the hotel’s own automobiles — delivered straight into unexpected luxury and charm in the heart of the pioneering Rockies.

Restored Charm for Today’s Travelers
Through our renovations we have returned the Athabasca Hotel to its original stature as a premier destination in Canada’s Rocky Mountains. We’ve preserved the nostalgic charm and old-world character it’s known for, while adding the modern amenities, comfort, and attentive service today’s guests expect — all at genuine value.

“An amazing group of people and a very unique boutique hotel. Worth a visit! This awesome 100 year old hotel is remarkable, I could not believe how clean it was, furniture was in great shape, beds were soft and comfortable. Staff friendly and the food was really good. These people have it figured out! Keep it up ‘Atha-B’!
